Portraits of Grace

John MacArthur: This is John MacArthur with another edition of Portraits of Grace. Do you know how God proves the quality of your commitment to him? I'll tell you how he tests it. Daniel and his three companions endured many tests while in Babylon, and one of them was the temptation to disobey God's dietary restrictions, those given to the Jews, and eat the king's food. But they talked their overseer into allowing them to eat only vegetables and drink only water for 10 days, while all their fellow captives ate the king's special diet. What happened? After 10 days, these four young men were healthier, more vigorous than everybody else.

The results were so convincing that their overseer allowed them to remain on that special diet throughout their entire three-year training period. It wasn't the diet. It was God who honored their uncompromising spirit. When you're tested, remember God is working on your spiritual maturity. That's how he makes you a portrait of grace.
